Shop our available used cars by body style, brand, model, or price. And if you think our Hertz lineup is this big because we'll buy and resell any old second-hand used car, think again. All our vehicles have to meet our strict standards and include a 12-month/12,000-mile powertrain warranty. Even with these strict standards, we have affordable vehicles, with many priced under $20,000. Look through the Hertz lineup, then visit the dealership near you for a test drive.

Buying a used car makes financial sense as the value of a new vehicle drops as soon as you drive off the dealership lot. When buying a pre-owned vehicle, someone else has taken that initial depreciation hit for you, leaving you with greater value for your purchase over the lifetime of ownership. When buying a vehicle from a rental car company, you're saving even more as you're purchasing from us direct with no middleman. Without price markups, buying a vehicle from a rental car company can mean big savings.

Our prices really are this low. There's no gimmicks and no need to negotiate to get a great deal on a used car at Hertz Car Sales. The shopping process is simple and stress-free. Whatever your budget may be, Hertz Car Sales offers a big selection of quality Hertz Certified vehicles at incredible prices.

While our available inventory at Hertz Car Sales is always changing, you will often find an incredible selection of quality used cars from the most popular brands. Most Hertz Certified used cars, trucks and SUVs are from recent model years, so you can expect low mileage, less overall wear and tear and often find newer styling and features, such as smartphone integration, push-start and more.

Shoppers from all over the country have plenty of options when it comes to buying a used car. However, there are many great reasons why you should choose Hertz Car Sales: quality used cars, low no-haggle prices, a great selection of popular vehicles, a no-pressure atmosphere, and a 7-day buy back guarantee. Shop our vehicles online and schedule a test drive today!

Both Hertz and Enterprise are car rental companies that sell their used cars. They both offer no price haggling, the same 12-month, 12,000 mile warranty and a seven-day return guarantee with a $200 return fee.

Not all cars are made equal; some vehicles are more dependable and can handle higher mileage. Get a used car inspection to make sure that any car with higher mileage has no major problems and plenty of life still left in it.

Mention that you are thinking of buying a former rental car and the response is predictable: Rental cars have been abused and you'd be crazy to buy one. But should you really steer clear of these vehicles? Or could a former rental car be solid, dependable transportation?

The oft-cited abuse of rental cars might be true in a few cases. But there are other factors that offset that argument. Rental companies maintain their cars well and closely follow the service schedules. And because the rental car agencies buy vehicles in volume and pay less up front, their resale prices can be lower.

Check on recalls. Since June 2016, rental car companies have been required to fix any recalled cars in their fleets. The vehicle history report should show whether there are any outstanding recalls, but it doesn't hurt to check yourself by running the vehicle identification number (VIN) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free recall site. If there turns out to be an outstanding recall, you can ask the seller to get the car fixed or move on to another vehicle.

EDMUNDS SAYS: Consider shopping at a rental car lot the next time you're in need of a good used car. The streamlined sales process and lower prices may be enough to offset the downsides of high mileage and history of many drivers.

Hertz Car Sales consists of a network of 80 company-operated vehicle sales locations throughout the U.S. dedicated to the sale of used vehicles from our rental fleet consisting of non-program vehicles, as well as program vehicles that become ineligible for manufacturer repurchase or guaranteed depreciation programs. Vehicles disposed of through our retail outlets allow us the opportunity for ancillary vehicle sales revenue, such as warranty and financing and title fees.

The answer is that there may be. Quoting a different company (Avis) Consumer Reports says that, on average, cars are rented between 55-65 times each year (see video below). Also, the same source informs us that, in general:

Interestingly, this guy suggests that many rental companies are self-insured, and may have repaired cars themselves without it going through insurance. For that reason, according to him, damage and repairs may not appear on a VIN lookup or vehicle history report.

So as you can see, buying from Hertz Car Sales (or buying used rental cars in general) has plenty of pros and cons. I personally would be quite nervous with these kinds of auto sales, and would be more inclined if the price was really, really good.

I worked for Enterprise Rent A Car. Sometimes the maintenance got done on time, sometimes we went 8000 miles between an oild change. In general, the cheap cars got ragged on pretty badly. The luxury cars were better taken care of by customers.

Hertz, perhaps the best-known rental car company in the world, has filed for bankruptcy protection. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting drop off in business and leisure travel, the company unexpectedly must cut expenses, eliminate overhead, and restructure its debt. And that could be your chance to save $1,000 or more on a used-car purchase.

With nearly 200,000 cars to sell the availability is truly enormous. Most mass-market brands are represented, and Hertz is also selling luxury-brand vehicles from BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz.

As an example of the values on luxury cars, during our recent check of the site Hertz is offering a Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan with 17,000 miles on the odometer for a no-haggle price of $26,395. That compares to the "Clean Retail" of $29,825. The Hertz site lists a large number of cars like that A-Class in most major metropolitan areas.

The fact is Hertz was a smart place to buy a used car even before the bankruptcy filing. Hertz was named number one in Customer Satisfaction in Rental Cars by J.D. Power in 2019, and its used-car dealerships offer a no-pressure car shopping experience with no negotiation on prices.

Of course, the vast majority of Hertz vehicles were used in rental car service, which means that many of them have more-than-typical miles on them. At the same time, the vehicles were examined by Hertz personnel at the conclusion of each customer's rental use.

Hertz Car Sales currently operates nearly 90 locations throughout the country, so it is well-equipped to handle the increased volume of sales of its vehicle fleet. You can shop for a used car from Hertz at one of these locations, or you can shop online using the Hertz Used Car Sales website.

Hertz offers a certified used-car program that mimics the offerings of many car manufacturers' certified pre-owned programs. Each Hertz Certified vehicle is given a 115-point inspection and includes a 12-month/12,000-mile (whichever comes first) limited powertrain warranty. In this COVID-19 era, home delivery of many of the vehicles is also available.

Now that the rental-car giant Hertz has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the company has to unload 200,000 cars by the end of the year as part of the deal. As a whole slew of used rental cars suddenly hits the market, don't immediately shy away from them. Picking up a used rental car isn't always as bad as you'd think.

Hertz has no intention of buying any more cars for its fleets this year. In fact, suffering rental-car companies are likely to sell off a big chunk of their fleets instead. Industry experts expect the companies to unload 1.5 million cars from their US fleets in the coming weeks and months, according to CNN Business.

"Generally speaking, you can get a rental car for a bit cheaper than a similar one elsewhere," Tom McParland, who owns a service called Automatch Consulting that helps people buy cars, told Business Insider.

It's routine for rental-car companies to sell their cars after they've been in service for a year or two. Hertz offers no-haggle pricing, which saves you the trouble of negotiating for the price of a car.

For example, Hertz recently put some yellow 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06s on sale for nearly $20,000 lower than comparable 2019 Z06s. And the 2020 Toyota Corolla with the LE trim costs $20,208 when new on Autotrader. But used and on the Hertz website? It's $15,129 at a no-haggle price.

Some might be understandably nervous about buying a used rental car. The belief here is that rental customers don't treat rental cars as well as they would their personal cars and they are driven far more than cars owned by individuals. The latter is indeed true in some instances.

"A lot of folks are concerned that rentals were abused, but I think that fear is overblown," McParland said. "Your average person isn't driving their rented Altima like Mario Andretti. Also, rental cars tend to be pretty well maintained despite having higher mileage." 041b061a72
