10 : Inter-Academy Exams ((NEW))

Anos and the students from the Demon King Academy participate in their first day of inter-academy exchange with the Hero Academy. However, the Demon King Academy students soon find out that the inter-academy exchange is in name only, and they are met with outright hostility. Revest, a third-year student at the top of his class from the Demon King Academy, is ridiculed by the students from the Hero Academy when he unsuccessfully tries to activate a magic spell. The students from the Demon King Academy are visibly offended by this treatment, but Anos's words turn the tables. "As usual, humans sure like to set traps for us, don't they?" The inter-academy exchange is off to an ominous start.

By Lake Seimei, the Demon King and Hero academy students are group separated by their respective academies. After Anos notices that Elenore was missing, Diego announces that the inter-academy exams will start and the lake is the venue for the exam. Although Anos volunteers his team and fan union to participate in the exam, Revest and other students are chosen instead.

For many students around the world, the end of the school year is associated with high-stakes examinations. These are often used to select or certify students as they move from one level of the education system to the next (or into the workforce). Normally, examinations also play an important equity role in limiting the effects of patronage and opening up access to educational opportunities for students from relatively disadvantaged backgrounds. With the coronavirus forcing school closures and bans on group gatherings, many solutions and measures are being introduced for the exams that students have been preparing to take. There are three main alternative approaches.

For students planning to take the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in May and June 2020, the exam has been suspended in their countries and will be revisited once the health situation improves. The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), which covers 16 countries and territories in the West Indies, has postponed its high school exams from May and June to July 2020. Although the Czech Republic has introduced preparation for school-leaving examinations on TV, there are now discussions to postpone the exams. Hong Kong has postponed its Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam by a month (to April 24, 2020). In Ireland, discussions are underway to postpone for several months the Leaving Cert, the terminal exam for post-primary education that is used for selection to further education and employment), which was originally planned for June 2020, as well as to postpone the start of the next academic year at higher education institutions. Likewise in India, exams to enter higher education have been postponed, and the government is working to revise the exam schedule as well as adjust the academic calendar. In China, the GaoKao university entrance examinations, which nearly 10 million students take per year, are postponed by one month to July 7 and 8, 2020. In Colombia, state exams have been postponed as options for rescheduling are explored.

In Germany, secondary school-leaving exams will take place under strict hygiene and distance regulations. Depending on the specific state, exams have already taken place, have been postponed by a few weeks, or will be conducted on schedule.

Iraq is imposing curfew-style internet shutdowns, where the internet is shut down repeatedly, routinely blacking out online communications on an ongoing basis. It appears that the rationale is (once again) to stop cheating for exams, in this case 6th-grade school exams. Tech 4 Peace reported that the Iraq Ministry of Communications (MCI) announced the shutdown, a deliberate cut in all online communications every day from 6:30 am to 8:30 am for 10 days, starting on September 1, 2018.

According to the Ministry of Communications, when Iraq shuts down the internet for exams, it is at the request of the Ministry of Education. Yet routinely and deliberately shutting down the internet, even for two hours at a time, has significant negative implications for human rights and the economy. It is imperative that the Ministry of Education seeks less harmful approaches to stop cheating during exams.
